Guy is a GOsC-registered osteopath offering hands-on assessment and treatment for back pain, neck pain, joint pain and more, from a practice on Lowther Gardens. Straightforward care for a walking, working, outdoor community.
Osteopathy takes a whole-body approach to assessment and treatment. Below are the areas we most commonly see and treat in the clinic. Every appointment starts with a full case history and physical assessment before any treatment is planned.
General, acute and chronic backache, including lumbago. This applies to everyday backache rather than pain following an injury or accident, which needs separate assessment.
Uncomplicated mechanical neck pain and cervicogenic headache. This does not include neck pain following an injury or whiplash, which needs separate assessment.
Pain, tingling or numbness that runs down the leg, often linked to irritation of the sciatic nerve.
General joint pain and arthritic pain, including rheumatic pain. Hip and knee osteoarthritis: treated as part of your wider OA care and exercise plan, not as a standalone treatment.
Frozen shoulder, shoulder pain, elbow pain and tennis elbow. Treated where these are linked to an associated neck or back problem, not as an isolated shoulder or elbow complaint.
Muscle spasm, cramp, generalised aches and pains, and tension that makes it hard to relax.
Common niggles and strains from walking, running and general activity, well suited to an outdoors-active area like ours.
Osteopathic treatment can play a part in preventing migraines for some patients.
Circulatory problems, digestion problems, neuralgia and fibromyalgia are also areas we regularly assess and treat.
People also come to see us with jaw and TMJ discomfort, carpal tunnel symptoms, pregnancy-related aches, general fatigue, or simply wanting a check-over as part of looking after themselves. These sit outside the areas osteopathy is licensed to advertise as treating directly, so we can't claim to treat or resolve them. What we can do is offer a full assessment, talk through what we find, and let you know honestly whether osteopathic care may help alongside your GP or specialist, or whether you'd be better referred elsewhere.
Guy's route into osteopathy started in the British Army, where his final posting involved managing the care and recovery of sick and wounded soldiers. Seeing first-hand how much good, hands-on rehabilitation could do set him on the path to retrain as an osteopath.
He holds an honours degree in osteopathy from the College of Osteopaths and is registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC), the body that regulates osteopaths in the UK by law. He's also trained in acupuncture, dry needling and soft tissue manipulation, and carries full professional insurance with Balens.
Every appointment begins with time spent listening and taking a proper case history, because a good outcome starts with understanding the whole person, not just the painful bit.
Jack is an Icelandic lamb, and technically has nothing to do with your treatment plan. He doesn't hold any osteopathic qualifications, isn't GOsC-registered, and won't be assessing your gait.
He does, however, sum up the pace of life around here rather well. If you're looking for a practice that takes your care seriously without being stuffy about it, you're in the right place.
